About Enrolled Agents

accountants_groupEnrolled Agents are Tax Professionals equipped to handle some of the most complex tax returns for: individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, corporations, LLCs, trusts, and estates. Many EA’s also specialize in preparing payroll tax, sales tax, and personal property tax returns.

Many Enrolled Agent’s provide year round tax planning services and tax guidance for startup businesses, bookkeeping and payroll services. An EA has demonstrated their knowledge of taxation by passing a multiple-part exam (Special Enrollment Examination, SEE), covering all aspects of federal taxation.

And that’s not all… Enrolled Agents are the EXPERTS when it comes to representing taxpayers’ before the Internal Revenue Service, IRS on issues including collection, audits and appeals. They are:

  • The only professionals empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury (CPAs and Attorneys are licensed by a state) to represent clients before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Equivelent to an attorney or a CPA in the tax world. They are unrestricted as to which clients they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can practice before.
  • Enrolled Agents also have a limited version of attorney/client privilege when providing tax advice to their clients. This is known as the I.R.C. §7525 Privilege. It is narrow in scope and only applies to tax advice, but not to tax return preparation. It also does not apply to state tax matters, criminal tax matters, or corporate tax matters.
